スレイビージャナ @johnnaslaby 日本出身のアーティスト。元来ミュージシャンを志すも、18歳の時、アーバンスケッチングに出会い水彩の色に感動し刺激を受ける。
2014年にアクリルを使い始め、抽象画には色、筆使い、触れた時の感触、様々の感情、感じたことのない好奇心など普段感じない感情や会話の源があると発見する。
現在、国内のコーヒーショップから使用済みの粉をもらい、人生や繋がりなどのテーマを絵画で表現している。
今回のイベント「BLENDING STORIES」では、今年2月にニューヨークはブルックリンに滞在した際の記憶や経験に着想を得た12枚の作品から成るシリーズをご紹介します。街角に蹴り捨てられた空き缶だったり、タイムズスクエアに溢れる色とりどりの光の景色だったり。その日その日に目についたものを記録し、コーヒー豆をブレンドするように、様々なニューヨークの思い出をブレンドした作品となっています。
Johnna Slaby is an abstract artist born and based in Osaka, Japan. Originally on the road to becoming a classical pianist, her career took a sudden turn when she discovered urban sketching and fell in love with the rough lines, textures and different ways of representing life. She made the transition from sketching to abstract painting in 2014. She currently experiments with incorporating physical objects and coffee into her work, creating pieces that start conversations about culture and beauty in our everyday lives. . In her new series for her show, “Blending Stories”, Johnna Slaby reflects on her recent trip to Brooklyn. Throughout her time in New York, she took note of her days and created twelve limited edition pieces. Just as done with coffee beans, she blended her experiences of the city to create each final piece. With an urge to preserve every moment, from the shape of a can kicked to the curb in Williamsburg to the bright lights of Time Square at midnight, she chooses colors and lines to represent her memories.
